In the race to become the Democratic presidential nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden came out of Super Tuesday securing the most delegates. However, the race is far from over.
Amidst Michael Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren suspending their campaigns, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are left to face off for the remaining delegates.
There is a total of 3,979 delegates to be won, with over sixty percent of the delegates still up for grabs, Super Tuesday accounts for less than forty percent of the total delegates needed. The winning nominee will only need a total of 1,991 delegates to secure the nomination.
Going into March 10 primaries, Biden is leading Sanders with a surplus of 78 delegates.
“What we need is a new politics that brings working class people into our political movement, which brings young people into our political movement, and which in November will create the highest voter turnout in American political history”. Said Sanders, at his Super Tuesday speech.
In the speech Sanders did not mention Biden by name, however he did point out that other candidates will have to answer to their political past. One of Sanders’s strongest selling points is that he has had the same rhetoric and political beliefs for over thirty years.
You can watch Sanders’ Super Tuesday Speech here.
March 10 primaries will get us closer to determining who will be the democratic front-runner. Michigan, Washington, Missouri, Mississippi, Idaho, and North Dakota will have their say. The following Tuesday, March 17 four more states will hold primaries, followed my Georgia on March 24.
Over the next three weeks we will have a really good idea who will be the democratic nominee.
All the candidates that have dropped out announced their support for Biden, besides Warren.
“Not right now, I need some space around this, and I’d like to take some time to think a little more” said Elizabeth Warren, when a reporter asked who she would be endorsing amid her campaign suspension.
Many believe Warrens supporter will migrate to Bernie’s campaign. We’ve already seen political groups such as the Working Families Party switch over from Warren to Bernie.
Many factors play a part, we will be waiting and watching to see who snags the seat.
