HOUSTON- In the wake of Nipsey Hussle’s untimely death social media has been flooded with conspiracy theories surrounding the cause of his death, Vada_Fly tweeted.
Nipsey Hussle was a L.A. rapper and a pillar in his community. Nipsey was known to be working on a documentary about Dr. Sebi, a Honduran herbalist and self-proclaimed healer.
The late Dr. Sebi and the upcoming documentary was very controversial. Dr. Sebi had claimed to know the cure to AIDS and cancer.
As I scrolled through timelines and twitter news feed’s I sensed a feeling of disbelief and suspicion from the community.
Many people were reposting and making comments suggesting that Nipsey was killed in an act to stop this documentary and the information it would hold from being released to the public.
In addition, some believe that Nipsey was killed by the government or higher powers in order to disrupt the progression of the black community.
Nipsey was heavily involved in uplifting and investing in an otherwise forgotten South Los Angeles. This was the community in which Nipsey was raised.
The community where he first started rapping.
The community where he first joined his gang.
Nipsey, a known rolling sixties gang member in the Crenshaw District in West Los Angeles was shot 6 times in front of the clothing store he was co-owner of.
As industry colleagues and fans mourn the death of Nipsey Hussle, it was apparent on social media that they were overcome with emotion and were not looking at all the facts.
Nipsey was heavenly involved in his community, he was a man that was for the people. I think that it’s important to point out that he easily and more than likely had enemies from his gang involvement.
However some fans believe his gang evolvment had nothing to do with his murder.
"Nipsey was for the people, he was a changed man. Somone was just jealous of him." says Lerumo, a local houston artist and Texas Southern University student.
When the emotions are high following the death of a black man who stood for so many honorable principles such as Nipsey Hussle, it could be hard to see the facts of the situation.
The fact is most of violent crime is a result of proximity and opportunity.
Nipsey Hussle’s death was not the result of a conspiracy theory.
Nipsey’s death was the outcome of Jealousy. The suspect who has now been apprehended and charged with the death of Nipsey was a fellow rolling 60’s gang member.
“At first I did believe Nipsey’s death was due to the documentary about Dr.Sebi, but after details were released I no longer felt the same. Nipsey Hussle was at the wrong place at the wrong time” says Robert Harris Jr.; Texas Southern University Alumnus.
Saying Nipsey was at the wrong place at the wrong time would equate his death to happenstance, but I do believe there were greater forces at work.
As black people acquire wealth and admiration, it could be argued that it is safer for them to create some distance from the community in which they came from.
To know Nipsey would be to know that this was the opposite of what he stood for.
However, I believe Nipsey would still be here today if he had set stronger boundaries between the hood he came from and the future he was heading into.
